Hello, my name is Kunstbau.
I am a space with many possibilities.
You already know me as an exhibition space? I’m going to try something new and become an experiment.
Is this an exhibition? Perhaps. But without definite answers. Because what happens here arises in the process - through joint action, research, and creation.
The space is constantly changing because we use it together, try it out, reinterpret it.
Working together with artists, mediators, collectives, visitors, associations, and initiatives, we as a museum develop new ideas. Everyone brings their own themes and working methods to the table and speaks for themselves. At the same time, we work together on concepts for the museum, pick up on impulses and react to each other.
For us, working with and on this space therefore means inviting, connecting, and acommpanying. We create a framework in which different perspectives are possible. This also means that we react to what is happening now and do not plan everything in advance. Many ideas are born during this process, shaped by the space itself and the people involved.
What makes a museum a welcoming place for many different people? How do we share knowledge? And what should the spaces where we come together to exchange ideas and have conversations look like?
What ideas have we not yet thought of that a museum needs?
After these weeks in the Kunstbau, we will redesign the Rooms for education and mediation in the Lenbachhaus. What happens in Kunstbau is a test. A test to find out what works, what is missing and what will remain. The space will be changing over time. We are going to document our experiences in order to continue thinking about them and transfer them long-term to the museum.
You can join in with workshops or try things out independently. Bring people over, meet up for a drink. Or just drop by, have a rest and look around.
